Toddlers!

Nancy and Kim were over today to keep an eye on the puppies while we had some work done around the house. Nancy took the opportunity to record some more great video of the pups. Check out "Toddling around with the F Litter!"

Dawna has many friends, some of whom are helping out with her litter. Nancy Vise was here today and took this great video of the mom and pups - cleaning, taking toddle steps and talking about life.

Taking turns

The puppies are good at taking turns eating. At any one time, some are hungry and some are full.

All dressed up and out to lunch!

The pups have moved from yarn, to body paint, to .... (drumroll, please) Litter collars! These are specially made break-away collars suitable for very small puppies. In several more weeks the pups will graduate to puppy collars. In the meantime, they're out to lunch together enjoying good food and their new duds.

Whiling away the hours

There is a tv in the room we're using for the puppies. To pass time hanging out with the litter, the tv is often on (low). We happened upon a dog agility and performance show on Saturday. Hmmm. We think Dawna is missing all of her doggie friends...

Finney's Fantastic F Litter!!

Dawna is the last pup in her mom, Makia's, last litter. Makia's breeder caretaker, Cath Phillips, has a tradition of giving every pup a nickname that is used until the pups get an official CCI name. Dawna's "original" name was Finney--finished! So it seems completely appropriate that her first litter is an F litter! Finney has F pups. Names will be coming soon. We'll keep you posted...

Proud Mama

Dawna is resting happily tonight after delivering 9 lovely pups earlier today:
5 boys, 4 girls; 4 black and 5 yellow. All are healthy and a good size. In order they are:

Red - Yellow Female, 15.7 oz
Blue - Black Female, 14.2 oz
Purple - Black Female, 14.2 oz
Neon Green - Yellow Male, 15.8 oz
Neon Pink - Black Male, 14.4 oz
Brown - Yellow Male, 11.7 oz
Light Pink - Black Male, 15.8 oz
Turquoise - Yellow Male, 16.0 oz
Orange - Yellow Female, 15.6 oz

Daddies are Ross VI and Saris.

She was kind to her B/Cs and whelper helpers and delivered these nine tiny miracles between noon and 3:30 pm with a mimimum of fuss once she was finally convinced that it really was OK to "poop" in the whelping pool.

Dawna is turning out to be an excellent mommy - attentive, good at cleaning, happy to hang out and nurse her babies and eager to get back to them after potty breaks.

We look forward to watching her grow as a mom as these little ones start their own CCI journeys.

Many thanks to our whelper helpers Peggy Keefe and Ralph & Patsy Cornwell. Many hands truly do make light work (although Dawna may think otherwise! )

And then there were......Nine!

We took Dawna out for her X-ray tonight. Mo counted nine puppies - all with nice big heads. It's amazing to see them all curled up together inside of her and know that in just a week they'll be wiggling and nursing at her belly. Dawna is quite large and will undoubtedly be very happy when these little ones are on the outside rather than wiggling around in her belly.
